Heritage Parkway awarded $25,000 grant for economic study

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation awarded a $25,000 grant to study how the proposed Heritage Parkway can contribute to the development of the cities along the historic waterway.
The Community Development Block Grant Planning will fund the economic portion of the larger master plan study currently under way as part of an effort to seek National Heritage Area designation through the National Park Service.
“The Economic Development Corporation Grant is a tremendous endorsement of the Heritage Parkway and a sign of the rapidly building momentum for this project,” says Candice Mortara, President of the Fox-Wisconsin Heritage Parkway.
The Economic Development Management Plan will describe ways to encourage increased tourism for heritage destinations and support for local businesses such as hotels/motels, convenience stores, campgrounds, restaurants, gift shops and fishing and hotel suppliers. The creation of a National Heritage Area and water trail along the route is expected to bring in outside money to Parkway communities from tourism.
The Parkway worked in partnership on this proposal with the City of Berlin (Waushara & Green Lake Counties), Montello (Marquette County), Portage (Columbia County), Boscobel (Grant County) and Prairie du Chien (Crawford County).
