Menasha to Rapid Croche Lock 5/20/2014

By the numbers it has been a huge day. Thirteen
hours on the water, 15 miles of river travel and
10 portages of various lengths and difficulty. We
are off by 7am after acknowledging the kindness of
two wonderful families in Menasha. One stored our
boats overnight and another put us up in a very
spacious 3 person back porch. Thanks all!
Our first stop this morning is in Appleton where we
visit 6-8 graders from the Fox River Academy. They
have a grant from the Teachers Outdoor Environmental
Education Fund from the Natural Resources
Foundation of Wisconsin. The students had also
visited many sites along the historic Fox River.
They were very interested in our boats, how we plan
and prepare food, as well as why we might embark
on such a journey. After leaving the kids the real work of the day began. Anyone else planning this journey will want
to wait until the locks are open. Needless to say we
were bone tired at days end. Pete noted that if you
can handle a
day like today, you have many years of paddling
ahead of you. Yawns served as affirmation. We
will let the pictures tell you of our day.
