The Window Weekend, Part II
Posted by candice on September 21st, 2014
With everyone hard at work, I almost hate to break for lunch. But, the great people at Down the Hill Bar across the street are making us pizza and cheese curds. (Uh oh, I just remembered that I left without paying! I need to rectify that this morning!) They set up a couple of tables for us and have the pizza hot and waiting when we come over. They love the project, and are in an historic building themselves. It has been a bar for about 160 years or so the owner thinks. She is going to pull the original deed and let us know. Many a lock tender has spent time at this fine establishment through the decades, and we are getting to be regulars ourselves as well. They allow us to use the facilities and bring us water, true community.
And that is what this experience, this house, has been all about. Community. Amazing people have stepped up and dedicated hours upon days to see this project through to the end. Speaking of which, after lunch we head back over and work until 5:00. And I am amazed at the progress. Each and every window of the 9 are somewhere between 85% – 95% finished! I couldn’t be more thrilled! This will mean that with the regulars who show up every single week, we will be able to get them ready to install the windows before winter! Huge success!!
Done through community.
And each and every person involved today offered up the insight that they want to come back – even the Milwaukee folks! A little bit of the bug bit them, a little bit of the koolaid was consumed. They fell in love with the house just a bit. Outstanding!!
